Is ibogaine legal in Mexico?
Yes. Ibogaine is not a scheduled or controlled substance under Mexican federal law, and its administration is lawful when carried out by licensed physicians within a regulated medical facility — which is precisely how Amari operates. While ibogaine is classified as Schedule I in the US and is controlled in the UK, it is entirely lawful to travel to Mexico to receive it under licensed medical supervision.
How does Amari's medical team compare to other ibogaine clinics?
Most ibogaine clinics operate with a single general practitioner — some with no on-site physician at all. Amari has two board-registered cardiothoracic surgeons, two anaesthesiologists, an internal medicine specialist with over 35 years of experience, an emergency-trained general practitioner and a medical-surgical specialist nurse: eight specialists in total. This team was built specifically around ibogaine's cardiac risk profile. The substance prolongs the cardiac QT interval and demands exactly this level of specialist oversight to be administered safely.
How do I know if I'm a suitable candidate?
The only way to know is to speak with our clinical team. We conduct a comprehensive pre-screening process — including medical history, medication review, psychiatric assessment and cardiac evaluation — before accepting any booking. Our free consultation is the first step.
I'm on methadone or suboxone. Can I still be treated?
Possibly yes — but methadone and suboxone require a specific tapering protocol before ibogaine can be safely administered. This typically extends treatment to our 10-day Extended Programme. Our team will guide you through the full process. Please do not attempt to taper medications without medical supervision.
What is the difference between the Standard and Extended Programmes?
The Standard 7-day programme suits most clients. The Extended 10-day programme is for: clients detoxing from fentanyl or high-dose opioids; clients on methadone or suboxone; and those whose presentation benefits from additional therapeutic time. The Extended Programme includes 3 extra nights, 2 more therapy sessions, 2 more somatic sessions and a personalised nutrition protocol — at $15,000 all-inclusive.
Is the 30-day aftercare programme included in the price?
Yes, completely — included in both programmes at no additional cost. We treat aftercare as a clinical requirement. The ibogaine experience opens the window; integration is where lasting transformation is secured.
What payment methods do you accept?
The $5,000 booking deposit and full balance are accepted by wire transfer or Zelle only. We do not accept credit cards, checks or other digital payment platforms. Full balance must clear before treatment begins. For financing, we can refer you to Prosper Healthcare Lending (640+ credit score required).
Can I contact you on behalf of a family member?
Yes. We welcome enquiries from family members and loved ones. We will provide honest guidance on how to support your loved one in reaching out. However, before making a reservation, our team must speak directly with the person who will receive treatment. All participation is completely voluntary — we do not do interventions.
How far in advance should I book?
We recommend booking 4–6 weeks in advance for intake, medical screening and any medication adjustments. We have only 6 private suites and our schedule fills quickly. If your situation is urgent, please contact us and we will do our best to accommodate your timeline.
What airport should I fly into?
Cancún International Airport (CUN). We are approximately one hour away and a private transfer is included in all programmes. You will be met at arrivals and taken directly to the clinic. Detailed pre-arrival instructions are sent after your deposit is received.
Is ibogaine treatment covered by insurance?
Not currently in the US, UK or most countries. Some clients have successfully sought partial reimbursement for psychiatric or medical components. Our team can provide documentation to support any insurance claim you choose to submit.
I have tried ibogaine before in a non-medical setting. Can Amari still treat me?
Yes — previous ibogaine experience, including in ceremonial or non-medical contexts, does not disqualify you from treatment at Amari. In fact, many clients come to us specifically because they had a previous experience that was powerful but lacked the medical safety, psychological support and integration structure to translate it into lasting change. Our clinical team will discuss your prior experience during the intake process to design the most appropriate protocol for you.
What is the difference between ibogaine and iboga?
Iboga refers to the plant itself — Tabernanthe iboga — a shrub native to Central Africa whose root bark has been used in Bwiti healing ceremonies for centuries. Ibogaine is the primary active alkaloid extracted from the iboga root bark. Amari uses pharmaceutical-grade ibogaine HCl (hydrochloride), which allows precise dosing and consistent pharmacological effect — essential for safe medical administration. Some clinics use total alkaloid extract (TA) from the root bark; we use purified ibogaine HCl for maximum safety and predictability.
