The Story of Amari

A return to yourself.

Amari was born from a deep belief: true healing begins with awareness, truth, and a new way of looking at life.

Inspired by the ancestral wisdom of the Bwiti tradition from Central Africa, where the Iboga root has been used for generations as a tool for introspection, healing and spiritual renewal, Amari honours this legacy with profound respect and responsibility.

In the Bwiti philosophy, the Iboga journey is not about escaping — but about facing. It is a sacred process of confronting the past, understanding the present and returning with clarity, with a renewed sense of purpose and a deeper connection to self.

The Name

Amari comes from the essence of "amar" — to love. It represents self-love, compassion and the courage to begin again.

The Inspiration

Rooted in the Bwiti tradition and the ancestral wisdom of Iboga, Amari integrates this heritage with modern science and medical excellence.

The Purpose

To provide a safe, private and medically guided space for deep transformation, where each person is supported with dignity, respect and care.

The Promise

A new beginning. A return to clarity. A path back to yourself.

More than a clinic
Amari is more than a treatment centre.
It is a sanctuary for transformation.

Surrounded by the natural beauty and ancient energy of the Riviera Maya, we create the ideal environment for deep inner work and real, lasting change.

Here, science and spirituality walk together. Tradition and innovation unite for one purpose:

"Rooted in wisdom.
Guided by science.
Driven by compassion.
This is Amari."
Honoring the past
Embracing the future
Transforming lives
"The journey of Iboga is the journey back to yourself.
Amari is the place where it begins."

The Medicine

A neurological reset rooted in centuries of healing.

Ibogaine is a naturally occurring compound from the root bark of the West African Tabernanthe iboga shrub — central to Bwiti healing ceremonies for over 500 years. Modern neuroscience confirms what healers always knew: ibogaine resets the brain's reward pathways, interrupts addiction cycles, and catalyses deep psychological transformation unlike any other medicine.

GDNF & Neuroplasticity

Ibogaine upregulates GDNF and BDNF — proteins that rebuild neural connections — literally rewiring patterns of addiction, trauma and depression at the biological level.

Opioid & Dopamine Reset

Ibogaine resets opioid receptors and dopamine transporters toward pre-addiction baselines — which is why withdrawal symptoms often near-disappear within 12–24 hours of administration.

Noribogaine: The Window of Change

Ibogaine's metabolite noribogaine remains active for days to weeks, sustaining elevated neuroplasticity — the unique "window" our 30-day aftercare programme is built to maximise.

NMDA & Serotonin Modulation

Ibogaine's NMDA antagonism and serotonin activity produce rapid antidepressant effects and allow access to traumatic memories with a psychological distance that transforms what conventional therapy cannot reach.

The Pharmacology
01 — Opioid Receptors
Opioid Receptor Normalisation
Ibogaine resets mu, kappa and delta opioid receptor sensitivity toward pre-addiction baselines — explaining why opioid withdrawal symptoms often near-disappear within hours of a flood dose.
02 — NMDA Antagonism
Rapid Antidepressant Mechanism
Like ketamine, ibogaine partially blocks NMDA receptors — contributing to rapid antidepressant effects and the ability to interrupt neural patterns that have persisted for decades.
03 — Serotonin System
Trauma Processing Gateway
Ibogaine's serotonin and sigma-2 receptor activity facilitates access to traumatic memory with psychological distance — making processing possible without the retraumatisation that stops conventional therapy.
Who We Help

Conditions we treat

If you feel you have tried everything and nothing has gone deep enough to truly liberate you, it may be time to explore ibogaine. Our doors are open to anyone ready to let go of what is weighing them down and create a life of deeper connection and purpose.

01
Opioid Addiction
Heroin, fentanyl, oxycodone and all opioid dependencies. Ibogaine interrupts addiction neurologically and dramatically reduces withdrawal — often within 12–24 hours of administration.
02
Cocaine & Stimulants
Cocaine, crack cocaine and methamphetamine. Ibogaine resets the reward circuitry sustaining compulsive use and addresses the psychological roots — often unresolved trauma — driving dependency.
03
Alcohol Use Disorder
Alcohol dependency addressed at its neurological root, not just the behaviour. Note: alcohol withdrawal requires separate medical management before ibogaine — our team coordinates this with you.
04
PTSD & Trauma
Combat PTSD, childhood trauma, complex PTSD and moral injury. Ibogaine allows the mind to access and process what years of talk therapy could not reach, without retraumatisation.
05
Depression & Anxiety
Treatment-resistant depression, persistent anxiety and mood disorders unresponsive to medication. Ibogaine's neuroplastic mechanisms produce antidepressant effects often felt within 24–72 hours.
06
Chronic Pain
Fibromyalgia, neuropathic and chronic regional pain syndrome. Ibogaine modulates central sensitisation and neuroinflammation where conventional approaches have consistently fallen short.

The landmark Stanford study — ibogaine & PTSD

In 2023, Stanford University published research in Nature Medicine examining ibogaine's effects on US special operations veterans with PTSD, traumatic brain injury and substance use disorder. Researchers described the results as "dramatic" — large, rapid and durable improvements at one-month follow-up, with zero serious adverse events under medical supervision. Safety is never negotiable.

The Amari safety standard

Cardiothoracic physician on-site — Dr. Campos Ortega, board-registered cardiovascular and thoracic surgeon, personally oversees every ibogaine administration. Ibogaine's QT-prolonging cardiac effects demand this exact level of expertise.

ICU-grade continuous cardiac monitoring — ECG telemetry throughout the entire ibogaine experience. Vital signs, blood pressure and oxygen saturation tracked by nursing staff at regular intervals.

IV access & electrolyte management — Intravenous access maintained throughout treatment. Magnesium, sodium, calcium, potassium and phosphorus actively managed to mitigate cardiac risk during administration.

Full pre-treatment workup — 12-lead ECG, complete blood panel, liver function tests and physician assessment before any treatment begins. We will not proceed without medical clearance.

Emergency readiness — Defibrillation equipment, emergency medications and established hospital transfer protocols on standby at all times.

Complete confidentiality — All enquiries and treatment experiences handled with absolute discretion. We never contact your employer, family or GP without your explicit consent.

When conventional care
isn't enough.

You served. You came home. But something came home with you. The VA offered medications. Therapy helped some. But the hypervigilance, the nightmares, the numbness, the moral injury — they persisted.

Ibogaine does something no medication or conventional therapy can: it accesses the neurological root of trauma and resets it. Not by suppressing symptoms — but by allowing the mind to finally process what it could not process before, without retraumatisation.

"Two tours of combat, PTSD for six years. The VA gave me pills. Amari gave me my life back. The trauma processing during ibogaine was unlike anything in years of conventional therapy."

Common Questions

Everything you need to know

Is ibogaine legal in Mexico?
Yes. Ibogaine is not a scheduled or controlled substance under Mexican federal law, and its administration is lawful when carried out by licensed physicians within a regulated medical facility — which is precisely how Amari operates. While ibogaine is classified as Schedule I in the US and is controlled in the UK, it is entirely lawful to travel to Mexico to receive it under licensed medical supervision.
How does Amari's medical team compare to other ibogaine clinics?
Most ibogaine clinics operate with a single general practitioner — some with no on-site physician at all. Amari has two board-registered cardiothoracic surgeons, two anaesthesiologists, an internal medicine specialist with over 35 years of experience, an emergency-trained general practitioner and a medical-surgical specialist nurse: eight specialists in total. This team was built specifically around ibogaine's cardiac risk profile. The substance prolongs the cardiac QT interval and demands exactly this level of specialist oversight to be administered safely.
How do I know if I'm a suitable candidate?
The only way to know is to speak with our clinical team. We conduct a comprehensive pre-screening process — including medical history, medication review, psychiatric assessment and cardiac evaluation — before accepting any booking. Our free consultation is the first step.
I'm on methadone or suboxone. Can I still be treated?
Possibly yes — but methadone and suboxone require a specific tapering protocol before ibogaine can be safely administered. This typically extends treatment to our 10-day Extended Programme. Our team will guide you through the full process. Please do not attempt to taper medications without medical supervision.
What is the difference between the Standard and Extended Programmes?
The Standard 7-day programme suits most clients. The Extended 10-day programme is for: clients detoxing from fentanyl or high-dose opioids; clients on methadone or suboxone; and those whose presentation benefits from additional therapeutic time. The Extended Programme includes 3 extra nights, 2 more therapy sessions, 2 more somatic sessions and a personalised nutrition protocol — at $15,000 all-inclusive.
Is the 30-day aftercare programme included in the price?
Yes, completely — included in both programmes at no additional cost. We treat aftercare as a clinical requirement. The ibogaine experience opens the window; integration is where lasting transformation is secured.
What payment methods do you accept?
The $5,000 booking deposit and full balance are accepted by wire transfer or Zelle only. We do not accept credit cards, checks or other digital payment platforms. Full balance must clear before treatment begins. For financing, we can refer you to Prosper Healthcare Lending (640+ credit score required).
Can I contact you on behalf of a family member?
Yes. We welcome enquiries from family members and loved ones. We will provide honest guidance on how to support your loved one in reaching out. However, before making a reservation, our team must speak directly with the person who will receive treatment. All participation is completely voluntary — we do not do interventions.
How far in advance should I book?
We recommend booking 4–6 weeks in advance for intake, medical screening and any medication adjustments. We have only 6 private suites and our schedule fills quickly. If your situation is urgent, please contact us and we will do our best to accommodate your timeline.
What airport should I fly into?
Cancún International Airport (CUN). We are approximately one hour away and a private transfer is included in all programmes. You will be met at arrivals and taken directly to the clinic. Detailed pre-arrival instructions are sent after your deposit is received.
Is ibogaine treatment covered by insurance?
Not currently in the US, UK or most countries. Some clients have successfully sought partial reimbursement for psychiatric or medical components. Our team can provide documentation to support any insurance claim you choose to submit.
I have tried ibogaine before in a non-medical setting. Can Amari still treat me?
Yes — previous ibogaine experience, including in ceremonial or non-medical contexts, does not disqualify you from treatment at Amari. In fact, many clients come to us specifically because they had a previous experience that was powerful but lacked the medical safety, psychological support and integration structure to translate it into lasting change. Our clinical team will discuss your prior experience during the intake process to design the most appropriate protocol for you.
What is the difference between ibogaine and iboga?
Iboga refers to the plant itself — Tabernanthe iboga — a shrub native to Central Africa whose root bark has been used in Bwiti healing ceremonies for centuries. Ibogaine is the primary active alkaloid extracted from the iboga root bark. Amari uses pharmaceutical-grade ibogaine HCl (hydrochloride), which allows precise dosing and consistent pharmacological effect — essential for safe medical administration. Some clinics use total alkaloid extract (TA) from the root bark; we use purified ibogaine HCl for maximum safety and predictability.
